Coach JT is an acrobatics coach and stunt coordinator who holds a BFA in Acting from the University of Connecticut. He has more than 35 years of experience teaching kids gymnastics, dance and musical theater. Coach Debbie has been working in the field of child development for more than three decades and is a mother of three. WEEKS 9-15: Ocean Defenders

Did you know that the killer whale is actually a dolphin? Or that a Blue Whale weighs over 300,000 lbs! Students in ocean defenders class will learn first hand what it is like to be a marine biologist. We will grow our own brine shrimp, draw with squid ink, DISSECT A SHARK, even explore a LIVE TURTLE, along with other ocean ambassadors.

Can you picture yourself drawing a sketch about a car, a treasure box, an animal, a musical instrument, a robot or even of a space ship? If so, then come and join this exciting new class! We will be building models out of wood (by using hammers, nails, drills, screws, screwdrivers) and other complementing materials. At the end we will give our models the final touch using markers and oil pastels. Woodworking is a very eco friendly class and we only use untreated, completely free of non-toxic chemicals, wood. The combination of woodworking and art encourages concentration, problem-solving skills, fine motor coordination and stimulates creativity – and most important it is FUN!

Sewing for beginners and beyond. There are no kits in these classes, students are encouraged to come up with their own ideas, create a drawing, make a stencil, pick out materials (felt sheets, embroidery threads, buttons, snaps, zippers...), then make a plan of assembly to create their very own design. At first we guide the students through each step, but soon after they are working independently. Student may submit a decorated square to show off sewing skills they’ve learned in class. We stitch collected squares together into a small quilt that will be on display at the Spotlight showcase at the end of the sessions.

TGA (Weeks 1-8)  Golf - TGA Premier Junior Golf brings the golf course to your school!  Our national, award winning, 5 level program is specially designed for children and builds upon the educational concepts they are learning in the class room including Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts.  Fun comes first in every TGA class, but our curriculum also focuses on improving motor skills and physical fitness as well as instilling self-confidence and life values through golf instruction.  Students learn the fundamentals, etiquette and rules of the game in the comfortable environment of your school campus.  Best of all, we provide all the equipment and training materials so children of all skill levels have the chance to come out and tee it up with TGA!

TGA (Weeks 9-16)  Tennis - Play Tennis with TGA! TGA brings the tennis court to life, offering a fun introduction to the game.  Students focus on improving fine motor skills and coordination through games and drills while learning the basic rules and etiquette of tennis.  Coaches promote life skills (sportsmanship, perseverance, leadership) through a variety of games, drills, and activities throughout the session.  Modified equipment and tennis courts are utilized every class and students are challenged to reach a new level of success through guided activities in a fun and supportive environment.  All equipment provided by TGA.

Weeks 1 - 8: LEGO STAR WARS - Stop Motion Animation

Take your imagination to a galaxy far far away and make a movie in this exciting Lego class. We'll supply the legos, or you can bring in your own Star Wars Lego minifigure to cast in your very own Star Wars themed movie! The ideas will be yours, the sets will be built by you, and you will operate the iPods(provided) to bring your masterpiece to the big screen. You will even lay down a voice-over and choose the perfect music to fit the mood. Whether it’s a re-creation of your favorite Star Wars movie or a unique adventure in another galaxy, this class is the ultimate chance to bring your Star Wars Lego masterpiece to life using the art of Stop-Motion-Animation! All student films will be available to view and download.

 

Weeks 9 - 16: Clay Animation with iPods

iPod meets clay - Have you ever wanted to make your own movie like "Box Trolls", or “Wallace & Gromit”? Then join this exciting class where students will storyboard their idea, then design, create and animate their own clay character. The process starts with building an armature or “Skeleton” for the character. Then all layers of clay are applied until the character is ready for the camera. Students will utilize iPods to make their characters come to life. After the filming is complete, they will choose their music and supply the voice-over. All projects will be available to view and download online.

These upbeat and high energy classes teach the fundamentals of hip hop movement in a fun, supportive setting. Stretching, isolations, rhythm, musicality, strength and fun footwork will all be incorporated to help students build confidence, relieve stress, and express themselves. Students will also learn to memorize choreography and work as a team as they learn and prepare a full routine for performance!

We will visit a new country each week and learn how to prepare a delicious dish from foreign lands and then, best of all, taste it! Each student will collect the recipes along the journey as well as design each country’s flag for “Cooking Around the World”. Students will also learn about geography by locating countries on the world map and other interesting facts like language, art, history & customs, puzzles and games and we will compile a folder to take home.

3D problem solving with recycled materials. We don’t have kits or instructions in our classes. Students are encouraged to come up with ideas, search through recycled materials to find the parts needed and then we show them techniques in gluing and taping their pieces together, how to paper mâché and finally paint their creations. These classes are great for improving hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and the overall skill of critical thinking.

Handle laboratory tools, build and break molecules, and pick up some tricks on chemical changes. Finally, ooze into a gooey hour of sliming around! Using the Mad Science recipe, enter your creation in to the Slime Olympics!

Weeks 9-16: Ready, Set, Science! We are on a mission to explore the world of science! Learn about the hidden components of light. Use hands on experimentation to find out if compasses really help you find your way. Have fun with thermometers and investigate amazing optical illusions. Explore how sounds are created and transmitted and create hair-raising experiments with plasma balls!  Lastly, cultivate a healthy attitude about fitness and nutrition in a fun way while discovering the biology of your taste buds!
